Learning objectives

Upon completing the course, the graduate

- has deepened and expanded knowledge of the use of molecular biology methods in different field of clinical specialties
- knows the current topics of molecular biology and genetic engineering
- can explain the use and importance of molecular biology methods in diagnostics and patient care
- knows the used sample types and their quality requirements
- can explain the main principles of the new methods in the field of molecular biology
- knows the uses of gene therapy and the related legislation
- knows the methods of genetic engineering and knows how to take into account ethical issues related to them
- knows how to perform molecular biological studies and cultivate cells in laboratory conditions
- can apply the principles of quality management, occupational safety and patient safety in their work
- can use the field-specific national and international information sources

Content

- Cell culture methods and their use in the clinical laboratory
- Aseptic working and contaminations in the cell culture facilities
- Sequencing of the DNA
- Real-time PCR and other PCR applications
- Gene therapy
- Gene test and the use of the tests
- Methods of the gene engineering
