Learning objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
Explain the operating principles of steam and gas turbines and their differences in a power plant environment.
Analyze the structures and operation of turbines in various operating conditions.
Apply basic calculations to determine the power and efficiency of turbines.
Identify and explain auxiliary and ancillary systems related to turbines.
Evaluate flow-related problems and identify common solutions.
Content
Basics and operating principles of steam and gas turbines.
Different types of turbines and their structural features.
Calculations for power and efficiency.
Control and measurement methods for turbines.
Knowledge of auxiliary and ancillary systems for turbines.
Methods of Completion
The course includes lectures, calculation exercises, and activating tasks. Active participation in classes and the successful completion of exercises and activating tasks are required for passing the course. The course is also assessed based on the results of the examination.
Assessment
Assessment is based on exam results and student participation in lectures and assignments. The grading scale is H-5, with the grade determined as follows: 50% exam, 15% activating tasks, 35% practical work and calculation exercises.
Materials
All material will be announced in the beginning of the course and is uploaded to the online studying platform Moodle.
Qualifications
Completion of courses in Energy Technology and Technical Thermodynamics and Fluid Dynamics is recommended.
