Learning objectives
Opiskelija osaa toimia monikulttuurisissa tilanteissa ja ymmärtää kulttuurien välisen viestinnän merkityksen. Opiskelijalla on hyvä etukäteen hankittu tuntemus sekä omasta kotimaasta että kohdemaan kulttuurista ja sen toimintatavoista. Vaihdon jälkeen opiskelija osaa eritellä ja kuvailla kokemuksiaan.

Orientoituminen vaihtoon lähtöön ja kulttuurienväliseen viestintään, valmistautuminen Suomesta kertomiseen, varsinainen vaihto, raportti ja haastattelu vaihdon jälkeen.

The course is based on independent work. It includes self-guided information search and reflecting your exchange experiences from different personal perspectives, at different points during your exchange period. The tuition language is English.

Objectives
The student is able to act in multicultural situations and understands the importance of intercultural communication. The student acquires useful knowledge about both the home country and the target country and its cultural ways before/ in the beginning of the exchange. After the exchange, the student is able to specify and describe one's own experiences.

1) Orientation to the exchange experience and intercultural communication, preparing to tell about your home country & exchange country.
2) The actual exchange/ staying in the host country.
3) Summarizing the exchange period and lessons learned.

Passing the course - the requirements and assessment
To pass the course, 8 compulsory assignments and some shorter online tasks must be finished and passed by the deadlines.
The final evaluation, as well as each assignment, of the course is Fail/Pass. This is due to the nature of assignments as they are based on personal experiences, partly reflections, opinions and feelings, and not only on more observable skills & knowhow.
Each assignment and task will be passed if:
- It is done following the instructions, and its content matches with the task description.
- The submitted work is executed in detail, and both the layout of the submissions and writing/speaking included follow professional standards and are carefully finalized.
- The contents of the submitted work reflect the student's own thinking, experiences and learning during the exchange period.
- The background materials are clearly used to support the student's writing and thinking, and they are referenced in a good academic manner.

5 ECTS equals approximately 135 hrs of independent work.

The student has a good prior knowledge of both the home country and the culture of the target country and its operating methods. After the exchange, the student is able to specify and describe his experiences.
Content: Orientation to the exchange before the departure by learning about intercultural communication, preparing to telling about Finland, the actual exchange, a report and interview after the exchange.
