Learning objectives

After completing the course, the student is able to
- adapt to the Finnish environment when studying, living and working in Finland
- use phrases and vocabulary needed in everyday situations
- understand predictable information in texts and speech related to a concrete topic, also formal ones written in Easy Finnish
- tell about their life
- ask and write informal messages related to their daily life
- increase their awareness of Finnish customs and manners, culture and society
- utilise different learning strategies that support enhancing the language skills
- reach the language level A2.1 in the professional context in writing, reading, listening and speaking

Grammar in the level A1-A2, e.g.
- past and present tenses
- object
- common word types

Vocabulary of topics such as
- everyday life
- travelling and transportation
- professions
- Finnish customs and manners, culture and society

Different learning strategies in the language skills context

Teaching methods

The second course of Finnish, where students practice speaking and learn more grammar.

You will learn how to speak about travelling, health, nature and hobbies.

You will practice using following grammar constructions:
- Imperfect (Past Indefinite)
- Passive voice
- I must...
- 3rd infinitive.

Alternative implementation methods

RPL: YKI or other certificate of language proficiency testing (A2.1)

Student workload

22,5 hours lessons
48,5 hours of online tasks in Moodle
10 hours exam (preparing and taking the exam)
in total 81 hours of studying

It is possible to complete the course independently in Moodle.

Further information

This course is held in the spring in the second academic year. Language skills will be tested in the end of this course. The additional 10% of the scholarship is based on the student’s level of proficiency in the Finnish language (grade 3, 4 or 5).

The course of basic Finnish must be passed before beginning of the course.
