Osaamistavoitteet

After completing the course, the student knows the concepts of energy, power, work and efficiency and knows how to determine the power of different fuels. He understands the theory of combustion and knows how to determine the efficiency, the need for combustion air and the composition of the flue gases produced. The student is familiar with different forms of distributed energy production and technologies, and knows how to assess their environmental impact. He knows the technology related to the production of bioenergy, is able to apply and measure plant sizes, and understands the related challenges of today.

Students will receive an overview to energy production technologies and they are able to calculate their efficiencies and evaluate their environmental impacts.

Energy sources fossil and renewable, energy consumption, environmental challenges, political guidance
Different forms of energy, energy balances, energy transfer,
Fuels their analysis (moisture content, calorific values and ash content)
Chemistry related to energy production for example fuel combustion
Principles and efficiencies of energy production technologies for example steam-, gas-, hydro, wind, solar and geothermal power plants,
Principles of bio gas and synthetic gas production
