Learning objectives
After completing the course, student is able to
- work according to the principles of professional ethics and analyze the importance of attitudes and emotions in mental health and addiction care
- mentor patients, patient groups, family members, fellow students or personnel
- describe the most important collaborators of the internship employer organization and work in a multi-professional team
- utilize evidence based information related to mental health and addiction care in his or her learning
- to promote mental health and sobriety of clients from different cultural backgrounds
- use the essential interventions in mental health and addiction care safely
- implement safe medication practices in mental health and addiction care
- assess his or her own skills and competence in mental health and addiction care
- apply the AVEKKI practice model and motivates to act accordingly in his/her upcoming profession
- interactively prevent and manage threatening and violent incidents in practice
Content
- internship in different working environments (e.g. psychiatric wards and outpatient clinics, substance abuse nursing units and child welfare institutions)
- personal learning environment and reflection on learning on the blog
- AVEKKI practice model and its utilization in different working environments.
Further information
The internship/clinical practice part of the course can be completed during international exchange. Under certain conditions, Studification of your paid work may be possible.
Internship may cause travel and/or housing expenses.
Qualifications
Medical nursing (theory course) completed.
Two internships completed: Nursing Assessment and Interventions Practice and either Medical Nursing or Perioperative Nursing.
Mental health and substance abuse nursing theory course in progress.
