Learning objectives

After completing the course, the student
- knows the general principles related to computer-aided technical drawing and how to use the software (CAD)
- master the basics of cartography and geographic information systems (GIS)
- can acquire and use a different kind of spatial data
- is able to prepare visual thematic maps and perform simple spatial data analyses
- can apply knowledge to produce technical documents and maps in the field of infrastructure and environmental engineering

Content

CAD:
- Basics of computer-aided design
- Management of the CAD software working environment and basic settings
- Preparation of technical dimensional drawings using accurate dimensions
- Utilization and editing of drawing objects and blocks
- Plotting technical drawings

GIS:
- Cartography, geographic information, and coordinate systems
- Geospatial information systems, their parts and utilization
- Spatial data; vector and raster data and web map service interface
- Acquisition and implementation of spatial data
- Producing spatial data by digitizing
- Spatial data visualization and thematic maps
- Geospatial surveys and analyses

Further information

Completing the course does not require previous experience in technical drawing or using geographic information systems
