Learning objectives

Upon completing the course, the graduate
- knows the key concepts of pathology
- can explain the importance of clinical pathology sample examinations in disease diagnostics and patient care
- can perform the histological sample examination process and understand the meaning of its different stages
- identify the most common tissues and tissue stains under the microscope
- can assess the quality and reliability of the histological sample examination process in its various stages
- knows the principles of quality management, work and patient safety and follows them while working
- knows how to use national and international sources of information in the field

Content

- the key concepts of pathology and the changes in cells and tissues caused by diseases
- operation of the clinical pathology laboratory
- histological studies and the most common sample types, sample fixation, preanalytical factors of sample studies
- processing of tissue samples: dissection, tissue processing, embedding in paraffin, microtomy, tissue staining and tissue microscopy and identification
- basic histological stains and the most common special stains
