Learning objectives

Upon completing the course, the graduate
- knows the key concepts of cytology
- knows the sampling of cytological samples
- understands the importance of cytological sample examination in disease diagnostics and patient care
- knows the performance and importance of mass screening of cancer
- knows how to prepare a cytological sample preparation
- can explain cytological sample reporting systems
- identifies normal cells and inflammatory findings in a gynecological samples
- identifies normal cells in other cytological samples
- can assess the adequacy, quality and reliability of a cytological sample
- knows the principles of quality management, work and patient safety and follows them while working

Content

- cytological sample examinations
- cytological sampling and its instructions
- pre-analytics of the cytological samples
- preparation of cytological samples and cytological staining
- cytological reporting systems
- normal cell findings of the most common sample types in general cytology
- normal cells and inflammatory changes in the gynecological sample
- criteria of cellular malignancy
