Upon completing the course, the graduate
- knows the structure and the functions of the genome
- can describe the regulation of the gene expression and the generation mechanisms of diseases caused by genetic changes
- can explain the main methods and applications of molecular biology and cytogenetics
- knows a clinical laboratory process in the field of molecular biology
- can define the clinical meaning of the laboratory analyzes in patient care
- knows the national and international legislation
- can define the ethical problems related to molecular biology and gene technology
- can perform basic molecular biology analyzes
- can apply the principles of quality management, occupational safety and patient safety in their work
- knows the field-specific national and international information sources
Content
- Structure and function of the genome: chromosomes and genes
- Gene expression and regulation of the gene expression in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
- Main methods of molecular biology: isolation of the DNA, PCR-methods and genotyping
- Cytogenetics
- Ethics of the molecular biology and gene technology
- Legislation of the field
