Learning objectives

After completing the course, students will have the ability to

- respect the patient’s right to self-determination, their choices and informed consent
- evaluate the oral healthcare needs of individuals, families and communities and
plan and implement oral healthcare in their area of responsibility based on those needs
- create a client-inclusive treatment relationship that encourages oral self-care
- act in accordance with ethical principles in their social media and online communications
and without damaging the reputation of dental hygienists
- recognise the limits of their competence through self-assessment, critical feedback and peer assessment
- make independent decisions and recognise the need for support and consultation
- demonstrate a sense of responsibility and justify their actions and decisions openly
- make use of material related to the patient's medical and dental treatment history
as well as their family and social background when drawing up and carrying out an oral health treatment plan oral health treatment plan
- assess the oral self-care habits amongst a community/population and encourage habits
that promote oral health
- create personal working life connections and operate in networks
- work in child health clinics and school healthcare as a dental hygienist
- implement an integrated periodontological and cariological treatment in their area of responsibility and evaluate the effectiveness of the provided treatment
- assess the need for periodontological, cariological and orthodontic consultation and follow-up treatment
- recognise the need for the treatment of malocclusions and refer patients to follow-up treatment if necessary
- perform orthodontic treatment in their area of responsibility
- understand their area of responsibility in oral health care
- implement the suitable medical treatment in their area of responsibility
