Learning objectives

Studies provide the student with

- knowledge of different diseases associated with oral health
- capability of producing individual treatment plan when the patient is suffering from a general disease
- the ability to use evidence-based knowledge in crisis situations
- the ability to resuscitate and use a defibrillator
- the ability to give first aid in emergency situations

Content

- general disease affecting oral health such as cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis and arthritis, diabetic syndrome and thyroid disease, gastrointestinal disease, renal failure and hepatic disease, eating disorders, bronchial asthma, viral hepatitis, epileptic disorder and Parkinson`s disease, cancer, skin- and anaemic illness
- patient case
- basic resuscitation
- CPR and defibrillation
- first aid in the care chain
- first aid in emergency situations.
- the most common accidents and first aid
- first aid for anaphylaxis and other emergency situations in oral health care

contact lessons: 40 h
independent study: 74 h
seminars: 9h (100% attendance)
exam of general diseases and oral health: 2 h
first aid workshop and exercises: 8 h (100% attendance)
resuscitation exam: 2 h
