Learning objectives
After completing the course, students will have the ability to
- act in accordance with the values and ethical principles of oral healthcare and related legislation
- respect confidentiality in patient relationships, also outside of work
- act in a patient-centred manner and ensure patient safety while making sure that patients' interests always come first
- act in a manner that respects work and patient safety, taking into account vaccination recommendations, hygiene instructions, radiation protection,
as well as the operating and maintenance instructions for various devices
- take into account the principles of ergonomic working in their activities
- use a scientific basis in their oral healthcare
- act as active members of multidisciplinary work communities and promote community well-being
- take responsibility for their own actions and the consequences of their actions
- operate the most common devices used in oral healthcare
- use an electronic patient information system
- perform oral health examinations (on children, young people and adults)
- perform additional tests (saliva tests, imaging) and provide tentative interpretations of the results
- identify periodontological diseases affecting children and young people
- identify a patient's cariological and periodontological healthcare needs
- evaluate the effects of medicinal products used by a patient on their treatment situation and oral health
- take into account any drug allergies a patient may have and ensure that they are recorded in their medical records
- carry out consultations regarding a patient's state of health and medical treatment
- refer patients to follow-up treatment if necessary
- prepare a periodontological treatment plan for a patient in cooperation with a
Bachelor of Dentistry
- implement anti-infective treatment
- describe methods of occlusal treatment
- implement preventive oral healthcare against infectious diseases in the mouth in children and young people
- apply a motivational approach and participatory methods in promoting oral health
- evaluate and explain to a patient the effects of tobacco products and intoxicants to general and oral health and guide patients towards abstinence
- use justified reason to provide their patients with guidance on nutritional and oral hygiene habits, as well as on the use of fluoride and xylitol products
- cooperate with patients and their relatives in all phases of the patient's life
taking into account the patient's current understanding of oral health and its improvement,
risk assessment and treatment of oral diseases

- family oral healthcare at KYS hospital oral and maxillofacial teaching clinic department or as part of an international exchange programme
- multidisciplinary cooperation between dentistry and physiotherapystudents
