Learning objectives

After the studies the student is able to

- explain the caries detection methods
- perform intra-oral imaging and follow the legislation governing radiation protection
- assess the main radioanatomical features of teeth and jaws
- use diagnostic radiology in care needs assessment
- explain the methods to prevent and treat cariological oral diseases
- explain the cariological treatment process and factors affecting that (anamnesis, care needs assessment, care plan, implementation and evaluation of the outcomes)
- decide on the consultation and follow-up care needs
- document status and indices
- use the instruments, devices and equipment need in cariological oral health care
- explain the methods of aesthetic dental care

Content

- diagnostic devices and instruments in oral health care (inspection, fiber-optic transillumination, intra-oral camera, imagining)
- bitewing radiography and panoramic radiography
- caries lesion finding
- remineralisation, demineralisation
- preventive cariological care
- cariological indices
- cariological care process, devices and materials
- dental pulp diseases and vitality test
- the chemical mechanism of dental whitening treatment

Qualifications

Anatomia ja fysiologia 5 op / Anatomy and physiology 5 ECTS and
Suun infektiosairauksien etiologia ja epidemiologia 5 op / Epidemiology and Ethiology of Oral Infectious Diseases 5 ECTS are required before participating the course
