Learning objectives

Student
- knows basics of climate change and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
- understand the systemic nature of action on climate change, their magnitude and holistic implementation and their long-term societal importance
- are able to assess critically information sources on climate change and also understands deliberate misleading
- knows the Human Security approach and is capable to preliminary assess the impacts of the measures in a pre-selected context (related to one's own work, hobby or similar)

Content

Changing climate is affecting everyone on earth and its sustainable development. This course deals with reliability of information sources on climate change, its basics, impacts, mitigation and adoption.  What individual citizen, organization and society should do? The course introduces Human Security Approach and teach how preliminary impact assessment of the planned measures can be done in student’s own work, hobby or life. The course is multidisciplinary and suitable for everyone with previous higher education qualification.

Teaching methods

- 100% online studies
- The course is open from 13th of September 2024 to 31st July 2025 in the academic year 2024 - 2025.
- There is no guidance during summer semester: registering into InTo-tool and requests for creating PRIA environment must be made no later than 4.6.2025.
- There are two return days in the fall semester, two in the spring semester and one in the summer.
- The assignments required to complete the course can be returned at any time to the return folder in the course and will be evaluated within four weeks of each return date. The return dates are: 7.10.2024, 25.11.2024, 17.2.2025, 28.4.2025 and 31.7.2025.

Course is free of charge for CampusOnline students.
Course fee for open UAS students is 75 euros. At Savonia's open university of applied sciences, you can pay an annual fee of 350 euros, which covers the tuition fees for the next 12 months at the open university of applied sciences.
Within a year of graduation form the Savonia degree, you can start your studies at Savonia Open UAS free of charge. The right to study lasts for one year.
