Osaamistavoitteet
After completing the course, the students have a general understanding of the possibilities of technology industry towards low carbon. The student learns to identify and examine the critical development areas of his own industry. The student gets the skills to anticipate and prepare for the challenges caused by climate change. Student understands the principles of carbon footprint and hand calculation and knows how to interpret the results and utilize them in the chosen industry or in his own organization.
He knows the importance of the technology industry in the carbon neutrality review at the national level. He understands the international standards related to the calculation of carbon footprints and handprints and knows how to use the information of previously performed carbon footprint analyses. He familiarizes himself with the technology industry's low-carbon road maps and knows how to position the influence opportunities of his own industry. The background is the UN, EU and national climate policy goals, agreements and obligations.
During the study period, the student prepares a road map for his own organization towards low carbon. He learns to evaluate the organization's impact potential and value the effects of different sub-processes and operating methods on low carbon.
He familiarizes himself with the principles of carbon footprint calculation in his own field. He learns to critically examine and analyze calculation results and learns to produce the parameters needed for carbon footprint calculation to support the actual road map.
During the practice work done in a peer group, students learn teamwork skills, information search and analytical research evaluation.

This course will cover the most recent topics in technology industries' carbon neutrality development. During the course students will gain more understanding on the following topics:
- Climate policy goals
- Green House Gas protocol, carbon footprint and handprint
- Calculation methods
- Carbon neutrality road map

Toteutuksen kuvaus
The course is studied online in the Moodle learning environment.
You can study the course independently at your own pace during the implementation period 1.9.2024 – 31.7.2025.
The study includes familiarization with the materials, learning tasks and a learning diary.
The course is assessed based on the learning tasks and the learning diary.
The course assignments must be completed/exam completed by 31.5.2025 at the latest.
The teacher assesses assignments/marks grades in the study register every four weeks.

The workload of the course is approximately 135 hours of independent study.

The learning assignments are closely related to company tasks and preferably from student's employers if they are working during the studies.

The learning materials of the course include online materials in the learning environment, related articles, podcasts, videos, books, project plans, websites.

The course fee is 75 euros for the open university of applied sciences students. Another option is an annual fee of 350 euros, which covers the tuition fees for the next 12 months at the Savonia open university of applied sciences.
Within a year of graduation form the Savonia degree, you can start your studies at Savonia Open UAS free of charge. The right to study lasts for one year.
