Content
In German 1 course, the students will learn the basics of the German language. They will learn how to pronounce German and how to use some greetings and introduce people to each other. They will learn how to communicate in simple everyday situations.
The course has three modules:
• Getting to know each other / Kennenlernen
• In the student cafeteria / In der Mensa
• Studies/ Studium
Vocabulary: numbers, greetings, time, week days, months, seasons, food and drink, study
Grammar topics: verb conjugation in present tense, personal pronouns, question words, words with der, die and das articles, the use of definite and indefinite articles, nominative and accusative cases, asking questions, word order in questions and main clause
Materials
All the materials are available in a digital learning environment.

During the German 1 course, the students learn the basics of the German language. They learn how to pronounce German words, how to use some greetings, and how to introduce people to each other. They learn communication in simple everyday situations.
The course includes three modules:

Student workload
81 hours. One credit requires 27 hours of work from the student.
The course includes 3*2h of optional online classes via Zoom.

Teaching and evaluation methods
The course assessment is based on:
• actively completed assignments,
• active participation in the webinars,
• assignments returned and passed within the deadline.
The final course grade is calculated based on the final assignment points and the points of the module-based returned assignments.
For the lowest grade, 1, students need at least 50 % of the points, for grade 3 the limit is at least 70% of the points, and for grade 5 at least 90% of the points.
