Learning objectives

The student understands the principles of mentoring and is able to make informed choices to build his/her mentor identity.
The student is able to apply his or her acquired mentoring skills in practical guidance situations.

Teaching methods

The course is studied online in the Moodle learning environment.
You can study the course independently at your own pace during the implementation period 1.9.2024-31.7.2025.

The study includes familiarization with materials and a course assignment: developing mentoring competence and reporting it (preparation, mentoring, learning diary and reflection).

The course assignment is assessed according to the general assessment criteria of the Master's degree studies. The assessment scale for the course is: pass-resubmit-fail.

The course assignment must be completed by 31.7.2025 at the latest.
The teacher assesses the assignments submitted by the end of the month by the end of the following month (except for submissions at the end of June, which will be assessed by the end of August).

The student acts as a mentor and is responsible for acquiring the mentee.

5 hours of online lectures
20 hours of mentoring (including preparation and reflection)
110 hours of independent study (learning task and literature review)
135 hours in total

Practical training and working life cooperation

The learning task carried out during the course can be completed within a work-life context.

Materials

The course textbook is 'Valmentava mentorointi' (Ristikangas, Ristikangas & Alatalo, 2020). Additionally, supplementary materials will be provided in the learning environment.
