Learning objectives
Aims for the course are:
- To provide intellectual and social transition for students having a common interest in any aspect of One Health: animal health, human health, environmental health, and the linkages of the three.
- To foster students’ abilities to integrate learning across disciplines and gain an understanding of the value of a One Health framework for improving global health.
- To provide students with contacts as a resource for information on topics on One Health.
Content
To explore the concept of One Health; the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems are interconnected and interdependent.
The conceptual framework of One Heath encompasses:
- human and veterinary medical sciences
- agricultural sciences
- food safety
- public health and epidemiology
- environmental health and toxicology
- wildlife ecology and conservation

The course is studied online in the Moodle-learning environment.
You can study the course independently at your own pace during the implementation period 1.1.2025-31.07.2025. There are 3 alternative deadline days to submit assignments. Assignments and course is graded within one month after deadline day.
Course assignments are related to learning objectives and content to achieve essential knowledge in one health approach applied in student's own study field and working life.
Course assignments determine the course grade 0-5.
Student workload
The workload of the course is approximately 135 hours of independent study.

Further information
The course fee is 75 euros for the open university of applied sciences students. Another option is an annual fee of 350 euros, which covers the tuition fees for the next 12 months at the Savonia open university of applied sciences.
Within a year of graduation form the Savonia degree, you can start your studies at Savonia Open UAS free of charge. The right to study lasts for one year.
