Basic processes in livestock production, techniques in production and the producer’s responsibility in the food chain. Environmental conservation in agriculture, focusing on water conservation and biodiversity.

Content

Techniques in livestock production and precision livestock farming. Research in livestock production. Basic functions of lakes and other waterbodies. Methods and technologies of water conservation in agriculture. Improving nutrient cycles in agriculture.

Teaching methods

This study unit is combined with the Finnish version, RAP061.

Lectures on livestock production (LP) will cover basic processes of LP with different animal species, technologies of LP, livestock research and precision livestock farming.

Lectures on environment will cover the basics of climate change and how agricultural production can prepare itself and adapt to climate change.

Student workload

Time spent studying: 3*27 hours = 81 hrs, which include lectures, assignments and independent studying.
