Learning objectives

After completing the course, student
- understands the importance of the nurse’s ethical guidelines and nursing values in his or her work
- understands the importance of evidence-based practice
- explains the emergence of internal and oncological diseases, their symptoms, diagnostics, treatments, and care
- assesses the client's nursing needs in different nursing situations and environments
- deepens his or her expertise in planning, implementing and assessing the treatment of internal medicine and cancer patients and documenting the process
- knows the importance of service guidance in a situation of patients with long-term illnesses and their next of kin or close ones
- carries out nursing interventions
- can apply nutrition and physical activity treatment
- is familiar with the basics of the essential medical treatment of internal medicine and cancer patients
- can provide resource-oriented mentoring for the patient’s self-care and lifestyle changes
- understands and pays attention to the importance of close ones and friends at different stages of the patient’s disease
- can perform the required drug calculations accurately

Content

- evidence-based decision-making process in nursing care and nutrition therapy of internal medicine and cancer patients
- essential medical care and drug calculations
- psychosocial support for the client and next of kin / close ones at different stages of the disease
- ethics and health promotion, the client’s active role in self-care
- the most common internal diseases and diagnostics
- documentation
- infection prevention and control
- encountering a terminally ill or dying patient (basics of palliative care)

Qualifications

Nursing Assessment and Interventions, Theory completed.
Nursing Assessment and Interventions, Clinical skills in progress.
Basics of Pharmacological Treatment completed.

Teaching methods

Participation in lectures, independent studies, accepted completion and presentation of collaborative assignments, accurately performed drug calculations (100% correct), a passed exams in internal medicine and in medical nursing exams.
