Teaching methods

The student acquires an understanding of the essential elements of the African-American musical tradition, historic development of the musical styles, musical forms, musical works and general practises within the context.
The student will be able to utilize his/her knowledge in demonstrating these topics in a pedgogical context, utilizing his/her skill singing and instrumental skills. Tgeb student is able to produce learning material using modern technology.
The student acquires an ability to independent research and life-long self-improvement.
Scientific curiosity is highly emphasized in the course.

Topics covered (Pop/Jazz orientation, Pekka Toivanen)

a) Music theory and solfege
b) Essential terninolgy
c) Theory
Weekly one session is dedicated to theory and the other one in ear-training (solfege).

The study plan has more detailed info about the curriculum. Study material will be announced in the beginning of the course.
