Teaching methods
The course is named as Naegleria Fowleri on Moodle and is written in a form of a thriller encompassing listening and reading comprehension tasks meant for everyone on the course and separate folders intended solely for different study programs in social and health care with degree-program-specific assignments. The degree-program specific tasks are thought to be done preferably with a fellow student studying in the same degree program. On the course you will learn the field-specific material in English and essential professional vocabulary and you will be doing powerpoint presentations relevant to your own field and they will be evaluated. Also, multicultural element is included in the tasks.
The student is able to
- use English in his or her work at the level required for his or her professional development
- tell about his or her working environment and duties in English
- interview and guide, mentor and care for different clients in English
- use essential professional vocabulary and source books
- know how to act culturally sensitively and support equality in customer- and nursing work and in the work community
Student workload
The 5 credits of the course will be divided as follows:
- Getting acquainted with the course instructions, working method, choosing your study peer and keeping in contact with him/her, getting used to the tools needed and studying the thriller story by means of listening and reading and doing the relevant tasks: 40 hours
- Independent and pair-based work, home work and peer-based exams 65 hours
- Returnable learning tasks, study peer evaluations 15 hours
- Getting ready for the Moodle exam and the exam 15 hours
