Teaching methods

This course is held in the spring in the second academic year. Language skills will be tested in the end of this course. The additional 10% of the scholarship is based on the student’s level of proficiency in the Finnish language.

Teaching methods include voluntary, but recommended contact lessons (online or campus), discussions and practice-based exercises, oral and written assignments in Moodle and exam.

After completion of the course, the student is able to:
- tell about his or her profession and work as well as daily life in versatile ways in Finnish
- notice the differences between spoken and written language and to use them in appropriate ways
- understand easy, topical news in media

Content of the course is as follows:
a)Grammar in the level B1.1, e.g.
- comparison of adjectives
- time and conditional tenses of passive
- noun cases essive and translative

b)Vocabulary and phrases e.g. about
- Finnish history and society
- professional environment and work.
- discuss about topical things and cultural differences
- write short, formal and informal texts e.g. in email
- outline the history of Finland and how the society has developed especially in the point of view of own profession
- reach the language level B1.1 in the professional context in writing, reading, listening and speaking

Prerequisite for taking this course: The student has completed the course Communicating in Finnish (3 cr) or gained RPL for it.
