On this course, you will learn basic Finnish language.

During the course, you will practice pronunciation and learn the alphabet, numbers, greetings, days of the week, months, and seasons.

You will learn to talk about yourself, your family, your typical day, your apartment, as well as the weather, food, and work.

You will learn to ask questions and use common verbs, adjectives, gradation, plural, genitive, partitive, locative cases, and pronouns.

Evaluation is based on the final exam points:
50% = grade 1
60% = grade 2
70% = grade 3
80% = grade 4
90% = grade 5.

Alternative implementation methods

RPL based on the certificate: YKI test or other proof of A1.3 level language proficiency

The study requires 135 hours:
- lectures on campus 50 h

This is the last Finnish language course for degree students. Its result affects the grant of the scholarship.
During the course you will learn intermediate level grammar and vocabulary.
You will learn to talk about topics related to your field and participate in various discussions.

Business Projects 2 (5 cr.)

Learning Outcomes:
The key learning objective will be to gain a real life experience in planning and executing a real business related project. students will have to be active project group members in all aspects of project work, from planning and organizing assigned project work to achieve the goals - working proactively and contributing to the project success by having his or her own responsibility area and independent tasks during the execution phase - communicating within the project organisation and group as well as to the external client - contributing to the end reporting of the project in a professional manner.

Content:
Project phases, life cycle, roles, resources and risks. Project documentation, communication with stakeholders, customers and internally within the team. Cooperative development of knowledge and skills. Basic target is to learn how to develop real business solutions for real companies.


Requirements:
Methods: guided and focused instructions, specialized literature depending on project case, team work. Preselected business cases, choice of a case based on the group's interest. Initial analysis of the situation, setting objectives for the project, planning the implementation. Execution, reporting and presentation of results. main working method is real business work in teams.

Grading Scale: 0 - 5, (60% client, 40% teacher)

The aim is to help the foreign student to work in Finland and to tell about her work and duties. The students will learn to discuss and communicate with people at work. They will increase the awareness of Finnish culture and celebration. The students will reach the language level A2.2 at professional context and will be able to survive better at work in Finnish.

After the course the student is able to:
- tell about his/her working environment and duties in Finnish
- discuss in person and to communicate via email/other channels with people at work or studies: to ask, to advise and suggest things
- know the suitable communication style in different situations in Finnish culture
- understand and produce simple texts
- use ordinary professional vocabulary
- reach the language level A2.2 in the professional context in writing, reading, listening and speaking.

He or she identifies the different elements of human resources management (HRM) and human resources development (HRD) and is able to understand the practical HR-procedures and how they are linked to the business. The student understands the principles of empowering leadership of the individuals and teams including motivation and interaction at the work place.

The course includes following HR-topics: HR Design, Recruitment and Onboarding, Competence Management, Remuneration and Performance Management, Work well-being and Work Safety.

The course will be implemented using Flipped Learning, Problem Based Learning and Learning by doing. The course is implemented as a in-class course (no hybrid). Students do both individual assignments and self-reflections as well as group discussions using the Learning Cafe method. Students will also make a HR-professional/employee interview.

There will be an exam in the end of the course. There will be an exam in the end of the course. If a students fails the exam, he/she has two opportunities to retake the exam. The student has one opportunity to try to improve the grade received on the exam. Exam material: Baker, Tim (2022). This course is aims to cover the most essential topics in Mico- and Macroeconomics.

On the microeconomics side, the course aims at Introducing the meaning and importance of economics, economic thinking and logic in all aspects of business and life. It also aims at introducing the most essential economic tools and models. Providing a good introduction to the concept of Market's demand and supply, and the outcome of demand and supply interaction, also introducing the different market structures and firms' operation decisions under each market condition.

On the macroeconomics side, the course introduces the most important macroeconomic variables (GDP, inflation, unemployment, and interest rate) and their impacts on business cycle, and economic growth.

To these aims, the course will include the following topics:
Economic thinking in business, assumptions, tools, and essential models.
Opportunity cost and trade-off.
Market mechanism and interaction. (Demand and Supply model, elasticity)
Supply decision, markets structure and firm’s output decision under competition. (perfect competition, monopoly, oligopoly and monopolistic competition)
Macroeconomic environment and variables (inflation, unemployment, economic cycles, interest rate, economic growth, and GDP)
Money and banking
Fiscal and monetary policy, and the AD/AS model.

The main mode of Learning during the course is lectures and, guided exercises.
Attendance is not compulsory, but it is highly recommended to be present and to participate in the exercises

Assessment will be based on the exams scores: Evaluation will be 30% mid semester online Moodle exam. 70% on final exam.

Mid-term exam is a onetime exam (no retake arranged). It will cover all the topics covered from the beginning of the course to the point of supply decision.

Final exam is arranged more than one time and will cover all the topics.

Please note that if you missed or totally failed the mid-term exam you will have to master the final exam (score more than 71%) to barely pass the course.

There are 2 x 2 classes in a week. Participating classes is recommendable because a lot of different kind of exercises will be done during classes. Approach to statistics in this course is as practical as possible. A use of Excel is required. It is desirable that you practise your Excel skills if needed.


Getting a grade

Option 1: Participate two intermediate exams that will take place in October 2024 and in December 2024. The exact dates will be told later. The maximum total points of each intermediate exam are 24. A student must get at least 10 points from both exams and a total of 19 points in order to pass the course (grade 1). A detailed grade table will be available in Moodle course.

The User Experience Design course is conducted remotely via the Moodle online environment.

The studies include familiarizing yourself with online materials and completing assignments related to applying UX design methods in theory and practice.

In the course, a small project will be carried out related to further developing an application from the user's perspective based on given instructions. The project involves collecting user data from users to gain insights into their experiences. Additionally, the project includes a business perspective, where information about possible competing products/services is sought and used as a reference for your own project.

The course is graded on a pass-fail scale. Evaluation is based on the assignments submitted.
