Learning objectives

After competing the course, the student is able to
- work in accordance with the ethical guidelines, values and principles of nursing.
- pay attention to and promote patient safety.
- assess the client’s needs, choose and use the appropriate nursing interventions to promote health and functional ability.
- use the ABCDE-method to examine the patient’s vital signs.
- guide the client/patient in daily activities according to the principles of rehabilitative nursing.
- explain what shoud be documented about the patient's/client's daily activities and health.
- work aceptically and pays attention to the transmission-based precautions.
- pay attention to safety of food hygiene in patient care.
- identifie the nutritional condition and is able to provide enteral nutrition to the patient.
- recognize the need for change and use methods that promote health and functional ability to achieve goals.
- master the basics and the essential methods of first aid and resuscitation.
- work ergonomically correctly.

Content

- Nursing assessment and interventions (assisting in daily activities, enteral nutrition, secretion, ABCDE-protocol: monitoring and nursing of vital fuctions. Deseased care).
- Professional interaction and guiding the client/patient in nursing care.
- Patient safety.
- Nursing documentation according to the Finnish classification of nursing diagnoses, the national documentation model, use of the Docca software.
- Asptics, Infection prevention and control.
- Personal and food hygiene.
- First aid.
- Ergonomics.
