Learning objectives
After completing the course, students will be:
- familiar with the surgical patient process
- able to engage in perioperative nursing in a customer-oriented manner, following the principles of nursing
- able to provide instructions in accordance with a partially rehabilitative approach, involving the surgical patient and the patient’s relatives in the various stages of the perioperative process
- able to apply evidence-based information in the identification of perioperative patient care needs, as well as in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the treatment
- able to explain and carry out the examination, observation and maintenance of the vital functions of perioperative patients
- able to apply the principles of aseptic operation in perioperative nursing and assess the harm caused by aseptic deficiencies
- able to identify the surgical complication risks related to the general health condition and diseases of a patient and familiar with the nurse's role in promoting patient safety and health
- able to implement safe medical and fluid treatment on a perioperative patient in a substantiated manner
- able to faultlessly calculate medical calculations for perioperative care
- able to assess the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation and recognise the role of different professional groups in perioperative patient care
Content
- Perioperative patient treatment path: elective (e.g. day surgery, HERKO, LEIKO) and emergency patient treatment process.
- Comprehensive pre-, intra- and post-operative care of patients in surgery outpatient clinics, surgery units and post-operative monitoring and ward care
- Intraoperative nursing of patients: anaesthesia and surgical nursing
- Monitoring and treatment of perioperative patients (e.g. ABCDE, NEWS, NRS-2002, FRAT, dolorimeters)
- Methods of helping perioperative patients' aseptic activity, treatment of acute pain, monitoring and treatment of wounds, rehabilitative nursing, nutrition, patient guidance
- Medical and fluid therapy, dose calculation
- Documentation and reporting (ISBAR)
- Multidisciplinary cooperation between patients, their families and professionals
- Perioperative patient safety (e.g. equipment safety, safe working methods)
- Surgery and Anaesthesiology
