Learning objectives

Upon completing the practice, the student:
- know operation mode of clinical bacteriology, virology, parasitology and fungus laboratory, organization and ethical principles national as well as international
- know the Communicable Diseases Act and can apply the Act at working
- know basic clinical microbiology examinations and clinical meanings of the laboratory tests
- can do basic clinical microbiology examinations and understand principles and methods of the equipment as well as quality assurance
- know patient and work safety and is able to use them when working
- can appraise own actions and work according quality requirements and can work at workplace as a member of it.
- can guide the health care staff taking different kind of microbiological samples

Content

- mission of organization, facilities, security plan
- performing the basic clinical microbiology examinations
- methods and principles of the bacteria, virus, parasites , fungus and molecular biology
- quality assurance
- patient and work safety, medical service, ergonomics

Materials

Literature used in preceding studies and literature extending and deepening the subject areas of practice

Further information

It is possible performing the practice at clinical microbiology laboratory in Finland or/and abroad
