Learning objectives

After completing the course, students will have the ability to

- describe concepts and the process of orthodontic treatment
- recognise normal occlusion and malocclusions
- materials, devices and instruments used in orthodontic treatment
- describe the oral health examination carried out in relation to orthodontic treatment
- perform initial moulds and deploy the materials used to reproduce them
- use photography in planning the need for treatment
- deploy fixed appliances
- carry out palatal or lingual arch cementation
- bend and fasten a retainer
- guide orthodontic patients and their families in the different stages of the orthodontic treatment and oral self-care
- identify factors that have a negative effect on the functioning of the masticatory organ
- identify symptoms of malocclusion
- assess the need for further treatment
- identify physiotherapeutic forms of treatment used for functional disorders
- work in a multidisciplinary team of orthodontics in their personal area of responsibility
