Learning objectives

After completing the course, students will have the ability to

- explain the principles of elderly patients’ oral health check-ups and their oral health care-related special features and needs
- assess the personality and functional capacity as well as any possible functional limitations of an elderly patient when planning his or her oral health care and implementing the plan
- understand the importance of nutrition for the oral health care of the elderly
- explain the effect of polypharmacy on oral health
- describe different types of oral health care-related cooperation with care institutions and home care personnel
- assist a patient to transfer from a wheelchair into a dental chair
- provide oral health counselling for the elderly or nursing staff
- define the etiology, diagnostic methods, symptoms and treatment methods of geriatric diseases and applies that information to his or her work
