Learning objectives

The student familiarizes him or herself with the basic concepts of economic management of social and health care services and understands the characteristics of the social and health care markets as well as the basics of financing and purchase decisions in public sector and the distribution of costs between the state, municipality and client. The student is able to acquire information on the cost-benefit-efficiency analysis of services and apply the know-how to decision-making. The student is able to draw up estimates of revenue and expenditure for a work unit, monitor the realisation of the estimates and execute needed changes to adjust the expenditure to gained revenue. The student also practices tendering service providers and suppliers according to the EU and national regulations and making purchase decisions based on overall organisational gain.

Content

Basic concepts of economic management of social and health care services, financing, budget and budgeting, financial statements, management by results, cost accounting, operational and strategic decisions and cost management in a service organization. Procurement strategies and procedures, and competitive tendering of procurements. Core issues of the economy, quality of life and its measurement.
