Learning objectives
The student will develop his/her English oral and written communication skills by having a look at intercultural communication. He/she will become more aware of his/her own culture and identity and understand the importance of culture when working in an international context. He/she will make the difference between formal and informal English and will be able to adapt his/her language level to different types of situation.
Content
Reading, writing, listening, speaking. Culture and identity: definitions. Classifying cultures. Why it is important to be aware of our own culture to better communicate. Finnish culture and other typical models. Etiquette and business etiquette. Welcoming guests to Finland. Finnish culture. International meetings and conferences. Business correspondence.
