Week 44 is the intensive week. During that the students get to know destination management in Kuopio region and learn about different destinations in the area. The group assignment is also started. On weeks 45-47 there are two weekly online sessions of 90 minutes. They include guest lectures and workshops for assisted working on the group assignment. On week 48 the students give presentations as a part of the group assignment.

Assessment criteria, approved/failed
The course is passed when the individual portfolio is returned and the group assignment is done at least according to following criteria:
- The report is presenting at least the location, climate, population, brief history, number of inhabitants of the chosen destination. The social, economical, cultural and political situation of the destination are described. Role of the tourism sector within the economy of the destination is presented.
- The situation analysis: Both internal and external analysis are described. The state of the destination in the framework of destination life cycle model is recognized.
- Several sources are used, and the information sources are all mentioned in the text and in the reference list. The students should use the previous knowledge, theories, models, literature that they have gathered during their previous studies.
- The presentation is done according to instructions.

Teaching methods
This is the first Finnish course, and the aim is to familiarize yourself with the Finnish language. There is no requirement for Finnish language skills, the course starts with the basics. Target language proficiency level after the course is A1.3. During the course you will practice listening, reading, writing and speaking and learn to use beginner-level grammar. You will also learn some simple words related to the tourism and hospitality industry.
Learning methods include lectures and activating exercises in class together with independent studying according to the instructions. The assessment (on a grading scale 0-5) is based on the final exam points and assignments:
50% = grade 1
60% = grade 2
70% = grade 3
80% = grade 4
90% = grade 5.

This is the second Finnish course, and the aim is to become familiar with everyday life situations in Finnish environment. Target language proficiency level after the course is A2.1. During the course you will learn more vocabulary, phrases and structures needed in everyday situations. You will also learn more about Finnish culture, customs and nature. You will also learn some words and simple phrases related to the tourism and hospitality industry.
Learning methods include lectures and activating exercises in class together with independent studying according to the instructions. The assessment (on a grading scale 0-5) is based on the exams and the assignments.
